In the last few years the promise of mobile computing has been realised and almost all enterprises now use it in some form or other.

Portable devices such as laptops, PDAs, tablets and smartphones all use mobile communications technology to send and receive data and allow the user connect irrespective of location.

These devices offer organisation's many benefits-better communication, increased productivity, greater flexibilty and improved monitoring to name but a few.

They also present new challenges to enterprises including training, inventory and security. Its important to get your mobile solutions right.

A recent survey conducted by security provider AVG found that 84% of respondents use the same smartphone for business and personal use. The implications for the organisation are clear.

So if you are interested in finding out more about what mobile computing can do for your company or organisation contact us today.

Remote Access
For organisations running a dedicated server remote access is provided by a VPN or virtual Private network. A VPN encrypts the data for end to end security.

A web-based alternative to the VPN is an excellent product from LogMeIn. From any web browser whether on a pc, laptop, smartphone etc. you can remotely control the target machine as if sitting in front of it. Secure, cost effective and easily deployed.

Email
One of the key applications a mobile worker requires is access to their email. Whether its a MS Exchange server client, Gmail or a POP account ezIT can get you communicating quickly and easily.

iPhone
Apples's iPhone (running iOS) took the world by storm with its combination of apps, multimedia capability and smart design. If this is your smartphone of choice we can configure it to connect seamlessly and securely to your network.

Android
Google's entry into the smartphone market in 2008 has been a huge success. Its Android OS is now incorporated into many of the leading manufacturers' products and Android boasts over 50% of current sales. Cheaper and easier to update its the smart choice for business.

Security
Securing mobile devices is crucial to keep your data safe and prevent your system from being compromised. Smartphones present an additional risk due to their always on ability to communicate and their size/portability. See our mobile security guide opposite for more.

 Mobile Security Guide

From a security perspective mobile devices should be treated like any other IT asset. Please read our general IT security guidelines here.

  • Passwords
Strong passwords are crucial for all portable units. ezIT recommends LastPass, installed software which can generate and manage all your device passwords. You need just remember your master password. It also provides data encryption functionality.
  • Encryption
If your mobile device stores sensitive data-either personal or organisational-encrypting folders or the entire hard drive provides added protection in the event of theft/loss.
  • Anti-Theft Software
Because they are portable and smaller in size it is easier to lose mobile devices or have them stolen. ezIT uses software which can locate the system, lock the system and send reports from the system on usage. The software can be used on laptops, tablets, iPhones and Android phones.

There are other solutions on the iPhone and Androids which can locate the unit and/or wipe its contents to factory default.
  • Keep Up to Date
With the proliferation of mobile devices has come new threats. It is important to be aware of what the emerging threats are. Monitor security vulnerability tracking feeds for new attacks on mobile devices and keep all devices patched and updated.
  • AV and Anti-Malware
Almost all of the latest gen phones and portables have AV and anti-malware software available. Schedule regular, automatic updates.
  • Bluetooth
Devices using Bluetooth need extra security measures to ensure safe and secure data communication.
